The commander of Space Command visited Redstone and community leaders Sept. 8-9 in preparation for SPACECOM’s move to Redstone Arsenal.
Space Force Gen. Stephen Whiting met with Madison Mayor Paul Finley and Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle and toured this installation with Garrison Public Works Director Joey Skinner. He had office visits with Redstone leaders, including Garrison Commander Col. Erin Eike on Sept. 9.
“We’re excited to become a part of this community,” Whiting said. “We look forward to being great partners here on the base.”
Over the next few weeks, a schedule will be built for the move. The phases will include temporary offices at Redstone Gateway and eventual facility construction on Redstone Arsenal. Space Command is moving from its temporary headquarters at Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs. About 40% of its 1,400 people are military.
“There’s a lot of support here for the Space Command,” Eike told Whiting on Sept. 9 at Garrison headquarters.
