VICENZA, Italy — The U.S. Army Garrison Italy community is embracing the fall season with a full slate of recognitions, school milestones and festive events, all while honoring the dedication of its personnel.

Assistant Fire Chief Fernando Carrasco was recognized for his exceptional leadership within the Directorate of Emergency Services. Recently reassigned to fill a critical vacancy, Carrasco now oversees 71 firefighters, two fire stations and a $7 million emergency response fleet. Despite a hiring freeze, he secured more than $120,000 in unfunded requirements, acquiring vital life-saving equipment. His team has responded to 211 emergencies since he assumed his new role, significantly enhancing community safety.

Also honored were Giovanni Ceccon and Diego Crivellaro of the Operations & Maintenance Division. Ceccon led the transformation of the Mensa dining facility, while both technicians improved data systems and negotiated a new billing model with the local water utility, streamlining operations and reducing costs.

In the schools, Vicenza Elementary, Middle and High School students will participate in Continuous School Improvement training on Sept. 22, with picture days scheduled throughout the month. Vicenza High School will host Homecoming Week beginning Sept. 27, featuring pep rallies, sports events and a cross-country meet.

Gate closures at Caserma Ederle are underway as part of active vehicle barrier upgrades. Gate 4 will remain closed through Oct. 25, with additional closures scheduled into spring 2026. Dates are subject to change based on construction timelines.

The USO is hosting two major events in October. The Pet Run on Oct. 4 at the Ederle Track & Field will feature an obstacle course, treats and swag. Proof of pet vaccination and registration are required. On Oct. 18, the USO will hold its Special Delivery Baby Shower, offering themed snacks, games and valuable parenting resources.

Outdoor Recreation continues to offer adventure opportunities, including hikes, mountain biking in the Colli Berici, and ski trips to Folgaria. Units can receive rental discounts and cost offsets by providing TMP-licensed drivers.

MWR will host its Fall Bazaar Oct. 24–26 at the Golden Lion Conference Center and CYS Indoor Gym. More than 40 vendors will offer European goods, specialty foods, tastings and handcrafted items. Food trucks will be onsite.

Oktoberfest 2025 will take place Oct. 25 at the Ederle Track & Field Area, featuring traditional food, live music, contests and kids’ activities. VIP tents are available for reservation.
