ALLEN PARK, Mich. – Soldiers from the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command and their families joined a large crowd of football enthusiasts who packed the stands at the Detroit Lions Community Partner Day event.

Held Aug. 11 at the Lions’ Meijer Performance Center in Allen Park, the event featured games, giveaways, a meet-and-greet with team mascot Roary and the unique opportunity to watch Lions players train for the upcoming season.

An energetic performance by the Detroit Lions Cheerleaders and a trivia game set a lively tone for the day. Throughout the afternoon, attendees had the chance to meet the players and take photos with Roary and former Lions wide receiver Golden Tate.

Other activities included face painting and balloon animal making, and giveaways of prizes such as insulated lunchboxes, bags of popcorn, sunglasses, and Detroit Zoo magnets and day-pass tickets. Once the players finished practicing, they signed autographs for fans of all ages.

The event underscored TACOM’s and the Lions’ commitment to community and building collaborative relationships.

According to Col. Travis Sept, TACOM G3, “It shows the Department of Defense’s support of the community and is a potential recruiting tool, with kids seeing members of the military out in the community.”

Sept noted with a smile that the Lions players weren’t the only people who signed autographs at the event; a little boy who noticed Sept’s uniform asked him for his autograph.

Participation in this event is just part of TACOM’s active community outreach efforts. As the Army’s preeminent ground vehicle systems and equipment provider, TACOM is committed to telling the Army story and values the opportunity to build relationships within the local community.
