FORT DETRICK, Md. - The Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) has installed a 24/7 self-service market in the Warrior Zone, ensuring our Service Members on Fort Detrick have expanded on-post options for food and refreshments.
The grab-and-go style, self-pay markets are available to authorized personnel 24/7, providing convenient access to food, snacks and beverages for shift workers and Service Members on weekends and outside of normal business hours for the PX and Commissary on post.
The Garrison Command Team and AAFES continue to explore ways they can improve the quality of life for those stationed at Fort Detrick and show their dedication to the greater community here.
“I am glad that I could continue the work that former Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. (Michael) Dills started and collaborate with our AAFES partners to push this to the finish line,” said Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Erick Detrich. “Fort Detrick is a relatively small installation with a small housing and barracks population compared to larger installations, and it lacks the usual 24-hour services. Our Service Members mission supports our Nation 24/7, though, and this is a big step in the right direction toward improving the quality of life for our Fort Detrick community. The Garrison Commander and I plan to keep pushing forward on quality of life initiatives.”
AAFES has another self-service market scheduled to open soon in Bldg. 693.
“At Fort Detrick, food service locations close early in the evening, which leaves Soldiers working later shifts with limited options. The new 24/7 self-service markets help bridge that gap by providing better-for-you meals, snacks and drinks, as well as sundries, around the clock,” added Exchange General Manager Jerry Shugart. “The Exchange is honored to provide Soldiers with convenient access to food and drinks so they can stay focused on their missions.
“The 24/7 self-service market is one more example of how the Exchange is deeply committed to enhancing the daily lives of Soldiers,” said Shugart. “Team Exchange understands the unique demands of military life and the importance of having flexible but dependable services that adapt to their needs. The Exchange is dedicated to being a trusted partner in readiness, morale and overall well-being for the entire Fort Detrick community. We’re here to support Soldiers, not just in their mission, but in their everyday lives.”
