Col. Donyeill A. Mozer, White Sands Missile Range Garrison Commander, addressed the New Mexico State Legislature's Military and Veterans Affairs Committee to provide an installation update on Aug. 13, 2025, at New Mexico State University, in Las Cruces, NM.
The Military and Veterans' Affairs Committee is a joint interim legislative body that meets year-round to address issues affecting service members, Veterans, and their families throughout the state.
MVAC brings together lawmakers from both the New Mexico House and Senate. Its mission: to gather testimony, assess Veteran and military needs, and recommend legislation and policy improvements to support those who served.
According to Erin Bond, Legislative Council Services, this is the third of five meetings the committee will hold throughout the State of New Mexico in 2025. Besides this meeting in Las Cruces, recent meetings took place in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, with additional sessions planned in Gallup and a second meeting in Santa Fe scheduled for later this year.
Mozer briefed the committee on the history and significance of the installation, from its establishment at the end of World War II and the Trinity Site Test, to its role as the birthplace of U.S. Space and Missile Activity. He also discussed recent initiatives such as the establishment of a Water-Resiliency Microgrid to support mission assurance and the deployment of a Hydrogen-powered nano-grid for clean power for remote operations.
He also reminded the committee that it was the 80th Anniversary of the Trinity Test and invited members to the Trinity Site Open House on Oct. 18.
"It was a privilege to address the Military and Veterans' Affairs Committee today and update them on the current happenings at White Sands Missile Range," said Mozer. "All members are interested in supporting the installation now and in the future."
