Picatinny Arsenal celebrates 60 years of Army Community Services

PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. - On July 25, officials here celebrated 60 years of Army Community Services (ACS), a program that provides individuals access resources to improve their lives and support the Army community.

PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. – On July 25, officials here celebrated 60 years of Army Community Services (ACS), a program that provides individuals access resources to improve their lives and support the Army community.

ACS provides a wide range of support services to U.S. Army soldiers, families, and civilians, and maintains community readiness and resiliency through a wide range of educational opportunities, special events, individualized counseling services, and other offerings. It aims to enhance the well-being and readiness of the Army community by providing resources related to personal finance, career development, family support, and more.

“ACS is beneficial to not only our military families but also our employees on Picatinny and throughout the workforce,” said Sarah Ibanez, Picatinny Arsenal’s ACS Specialist. “We provide a multitude of services to enhance quality of life during their career by contributing to job satisfaction and overall morale via support networks, resource access, health and wellness programs, volunteer opportunities and transition assistance from resume writing all the way through retirement preparations.”

The ACS program was officially established on July 25, 1965, by then Army Chief of Staff, Gen. Harold K. Johnson. ACS was born out of the recognition of the need to better coordinate services and utilize volunteer labor to support soldiers and their families.

ACS is a part of the Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation department of the U.S. Army Installation Management Command.

Some of the services that ACS offers include:

Career and Employment:

ACS offers assistance with job searching, resume writing, interviewing skills, and career exploration.

Family Programs:

ACS supports families with services like relocation assistance, family life education, and support for deployed service members.

Relocation Assistance:

ACS helps families with the challenges of military moves, including pre-arrival information, sponsorship, and loaning household items.

Deployment Support:

ACS provides resources and training to help families cope with the challenges of deployment.

Community Resources:

ACS connects individuals with local, national, and international resources for various needs.

Emergency Assistance:

ACS may offer emergency financial assistance through programs like Army Emergency Relief.
