ANNISTON ARMY DEPOT, Ala. – “What we’re doing here is about supporting the warfighter, and I’ve been that warfighter throughout my career in the Army … All the support we’ve received throughout my career – it’s all been coming from Anniston,” commented Anniston Army Depot’s new Commander Col. Charles Moore as he assumed command of one of the most critical sites in the entire Army’s Organic Industrial Base.

Col. Moore assumed command of ANAD after receiving the unit colors from Maj. Gen. Michael Lalor and outgoing Commander Col. Craig Daniel in a special Change of Command ceremony on July 16, 2025. The Change of Command ceremony, a time-honored military tradition, saw numerous leaders of the eastern Alabama community attend as the Depot marked the end of Col. Daniel’s leadership.

“I want to take this moment to thank everyone here at Anniston for being on our team,” Col. Daniel remarked during the ceremony, “Anniston’s not about me – it’s about the people and the quality ANAD is known for. That quality is what the United States has come to rely on.”

Looking back on his entire Army experience, Col. Daniel commented that “… leading this team has absolutely been the best job of my Army career – hands down.”

Col. Daniel’s two-year tenure saw numerous successes for the critical site of Army logistics. His leadership saw ANAD’s workforce of highly skilled artisans and technicians provide critical sustainment and maintenance for several thousand ground combat vehicles (including the M1 Abrams tank) and individual small arms and equipment. ANAD’s efforts sustained American and international forces alike, including partners and Allies such as Australia, Poland, Romania and Ukraine. ANAD’s economic impact increased during the past two years through increased strategic partnerships with key industry partners – leading to $2 billion in revenue for the Depot and over $1.7 billion in impact for the state and local economy. As Maj. Gen. Lalor commented, the efforts of the Anniston workforce saw Army units sustained with the platforms and equipment needed to build increased Soldier lethality and readiness.

Officiating the ceremony, Maj. Gen. Lalor noted that ANAD’s successes under Col. Daniel shown through topline numbers: “[Anniston] is one of the most important industrial sites in the Army – period. This workforce delivers worldwide impact for our Soldiers every day. The results the Anniston team produces delivers on TACOM’s performance-to-promise so that we can continue to build ready, lethal combat formations around the globe.”

More than headline numbers, Maj. Gen. Lalor noted that Col. Daniel had left a legacy of safety that exceeded TACOM targets for improved safety throughout the command’s Organic Industrial Base sites. Within his time at ANAD, Col. Daniel notably oversaw safety upgrades including measures that reduced workforce exposure to heavy metals. The safety upgrades and implemented procedures saw ANAD notch a 24-month streak of exceeding TACOM-wide safety goals. In Maj. Gen. Lalor’s words, “that’s taking care of people who matter.”

Taking care of the 3,500-member ANAD workforce and its pivotal mission now falls to new commander, Col. Moore. Col. Moore has extensive logistics experience as a leader who understands the needs of Soldiers on the ground. With multiple deployments to the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force- Afghanistan and Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve, and having been the commander of the 3rd Group Support Battalion which sustained Special Operations Forces across Africa and the Middle East, Col. Moore is uniquely suited to continue ANAD and TACOM’s focus of delivering readiness and lethality to Soldiers in the field.

“I’m really looking forward to serving alongside the ANAD team and building on the outstanding legacy of the Depot in the last few years,” said Col. Moore. “Anniston and the team here are the engine behind our Army logistics – ANAD is the crown jewel of our Organic Industrial Base. We’re going to build on that and continue to deliver. After all, it’s ‘Deeds, Not Words’ that matter for our Soldiers.”
