AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy – Civilian employees from U.S. Army Garrison Italy stepped into the world of airborne operations during a site visit to Aviano Air Base June 23, 2025, as part of the American Military Italian Civilian Integration program, commonly abbreviated as AMICI, which was started in 2017.
The group toured the Personnel Alert Holding Area, known as PAHA, where riggers from Kilo Company, Brigade Support Battalion, 173rd Airborne Brigade walked them through parachute packing, equipment inspection and cargo drop preparation.

Inside the facility, AMICI participants observed pallets rigged for aerial delivery, rows of packed parachutes staged for upcoming missions and the precision processes that support airborne readiness.

Outside, the team witnessed a live jump by Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, exiting a C-130 in waves and landing across the open fields of northern Italy.

AMICI members stood near the drop zone, watching troopers descend under canopy while discussing coordination between the Army and Air Force to execute real-world airborne operations.

This visit followed a tower jump event held last year at Caserma Ederle, where participants strapped in and stepped off a 34-foot jump tower to better understand airborne fundamentals.

From the chute shed to the drop zone, the visit gave employees a clearer view of the people, planning and precision behind each jump and the mission they support every day.
