Fort Irwin, Calif. – June 10th, 2025 Col. Steven L. Chadwick became the 15th Fort Irwin Garrison Commander at the National Training Center (NTC) in a ceremony that included his wife and children.
Fort Irwin and the U.S. Army National Training Center’s mission is to prepare the nation’s fighting forces for global conflict; a mission all too familiar for Chadwick who's stepping into the role immediately after serving as NTC 's Chief of Staff. Chadwick is also a former Panther Team primary, where he led the training of combat battalions rotating through here.
Col. Lane A. Bomar, the outgoing commander, and his family has served diligently over the past two years. The impact that the Bomar's have left on Fort Irwin and its partner communities were evident as senior military leaders, the Barstow Mayor, NASA and congressional representatives lauded the former commander and his wife for their service and sacrifices.
"Fort Irwin is one of our leading garrisons in the Army, much of that is thanks to the work of Col. Lane Bomar," said Mr. Patrick J. Appelman, the Director of the U.S. Army Installation Management Command (IMCOM) for Readiness, who officiated the ceremony. "Housing, environmental regulations, base security, and managing power outages can fall under the responsibility of the garrison commander; Lane has done a magnificent job at allowing his fellow commanders to focus on their primary missions."
Col. Bomar and Family will transition to the United Kingdom where Lane will serve as the TRADOC Liaison to the United Kingdom Army.
