Fort Meade, MD – 7th Signal Command (Theater) celebrated the Army’s 250th Birthday at a Heritage Day event at Fort Meade’s Argonne Hills Chapel Center, Friday, June 6 at 1:30 p.m.

Brig. Gen. Eric J. Van Den Bosch, Commanding General, hosted the event. In his opening remarks, Van Den Bosch praised the Army’s storied history and generations of Soldiers who have served—and sacrificed—to defend our nation and our freedoms.

“For 250 years, this legacy has been defined not just by battles won, but by character forged, sacrifices made, and a commitment to defending the American way of life,” said Van Den Bosch. “We stand on the shoulders of giants.”

7th Signal Command Equal Opportunity Advisor Master Sgt. Julia Reese, who organized this event, presided as master of ceremonies. Command Sgt. Maj. Jamila Whittington gave the keynote address at the event, highlighting her legacy in the army.

"The Army has 250 years of service, I have 27 years of service. My legacy is the pride and leadership that I have instilled in the soldiers I have served with and led. The pride, leadership, and teamwork with the civilians that I have worked with that is my legacy, the sacrifices that I have made for my family," said Whittington.

The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony where the oldest and youngest Soldiers in 7th Signal Command Headquarters shared the honor of cutting the cake with a sword, along with Brig. Gen. Van Den Bosch.

Earlier in the day, 7th Signal Command leadership attended a garrison Army 250th Birthday kickoff celebration at Defense Media Activity. The Command looks forward to participating in other birthday-related events over the next week, including an Army 250th Birthday Ball on Fort Meade on June 14.
