"I thought I was just going to learn the history of missiles. Honestly, I really thought that is what we were going to learn about," said Marco Olvera, Development Associate at Casa de Peregrinos Food Pantry in Las Cruces. "Coming in here and actually getting to see some of the training, some of the extensive knowledge and camaraderie of the soldiers, it is amazing to see."

The group was introduced to the Modern Army Combatives Program by the 3-6 Air and Missile Defense Test Detachment. They also learned the importance of teamwork and confidence during rappelling exercises, guided by experienced instructors Ed Stahl and Ed Taitano. These experiences highlighted how essential collaboration and trust are in both combat training and outdoor activities.

The professionals also had the opportunity to engage with the White Sands Missile Range Commander, Brig. Gen. George Turner. He informed the group upfront that he would like to learn about their vision in any aspect of their life. He received answers such as moving people into space, the expansion of businesses, and becoming a positive influence.

Olvera from the food pantry shared his vision for expanding the organization and getting more businesses involved to better the community.

"The vision for the pantry is to keep growing. We have a new groundbreaking event that just happened in Chaparral. We are also working in the Sunland area," said Olvera. "I am seeing more success with local businesses helping us by going to their establishments."

During the discussion, Turner asked each participant about their challenges, how they plan to realize their vision, and what metrics they will use to measure success. He also offered advice and solutions to encourage the group to think differently.

The program effectively connects professionals with local community leaders and provides comprehensive professional development and mentoring opportunities to support their career advancement.
