The "Best Warrior Competition" is an annual event that tests the physical and mental endurance of soldiers through a series of rigorous challenges, including marksmanship, land navigation, and physical fitness tests. This prestigious competition aims to identify the most skilled and resilient soldiers in the U.S. Army.

This year, Staff Sgt. Anthony Hicks with the Camp Darby Directorate of Emergency Services Military Police was highlighted, marking the second consecutive year of recognition for representatives from Camp Darby. Last year, Staff Sgt. Rosado from the same unit won the competition, setting the standard for his peers.

A significant challenge throughout both the preparation and the competition itself was maintaining the appropriate mindset. "Given my current role, consistent opportunities to train alongside fellow Soldiers are limited," Hicks said. "Regular training is crucial for cultivating and sustaining the mental readiness necessary to perform effectively at any time."

Despite these challenges, Hicks was motivated by a desire to set a positive example for his daughter, Tori. "Above all, I strive to set a positive example for my daughter," he said. "Furthermore, I find participating in these competitions to be a valuable opportunity for self-assessment and to gauge my abilities relative to my peers."

Looking ahead, Hicks plans to pursue further rigorous training opportunities, including attempting to earn the Expert Soldier Badge and attending Ranger School. "The next step is to continue pushing myself and seeking out new challenges," he said.

When asked if he would compete again, Hicks's response was clear: "Absolutely!"

He also strongly encourages his comrades to participate in future competitions. "I strongly endorse fellow peers and others to take part in this competition," he said. "It provides a valuable opportunity to challenge yourself against similarly motivated individuals, creating a memorable experience and a chance to connect with exceptional individuals in the process."

The "Best Warrior Competition" continues to be a platform for soldiers to test their skills, resilience, and determination, fostering a spirit of excellence and camaraderie within the ranks.
