ROME — The 529th Military Police Company, 709th Military Police Battalion, and 18th Military Police Brigade celebrated the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary with a series of non-competitive runs across different cities. Their inaugural run occurred in the historic streets of Rome, coinciding by chance with the election of the first American Pope.
The soldiers set off on a 4-mile run that began at Vatican City, passed the iconic Colosseum, and concluded at the ancient Circus Maximus. The event was a blend of physical endurance and cultural immersion, as the troops celebrated the Army's milestone in the heart of Italy.
"It was a crazy, amazing trip," said one of the participants. "The energy and excitement were palpable, especially with the historic election happening at the same time."
The run not only honored the Army's rich history but also provided a unique opportunity for the soldiers to witness a significant moment in the Catholic Church's history. The election of the new Pope, an American, added an extra layer of significance to the day's events, creating a sense of unity and shared celebration among the participants.
