“This means that we walked around Camp Darby with our little cart full of library items,” said Lead Librarian Debora Lomi. They shared books, DVDs, and information about online resources. The initiative allowed Camp Darby community members to borrow or exchange books and materials conveniently during their daily routines.

“I think it's super cool because the library comes to us,” said Sgt. Davila. “I personally love to read a lot of books, and I was able to find one about Italy … I think this is a cool system because it allows everyone to get introduced to the library without having to go to the library.”

The Walking Library saves time, supports professional development and promotes a healthy work-life balance. “By meeting people where they are, we encourage a culture of reading and continuous learning while also showing that libraries can be flexible, modern and community focused,” said Librarian Ani Belnavis.

“Reading is expanding horizons,” Lomi said. “Reading can improve your knowledge. Reading can bring you into another world and reduce your stress. After a day of stress, you sit down, read a book, and you feel better.”
