During the ceremony, Earl passed the guidon to Capt. Taylor John-Morton, the current commander of the 3-6 Detachment. This act symbolizes the transfer of responsibility and authority from one leader to another. Once the incoming first sergeant arrives at White Sands Missile Range, the guidon will again pass through John-Morton during an Assumption of Responsibility ceremony.

"First Sgt. Earl made this unit into what it is now, he has seen us during the storm we were all headed for. By way of mentoring coaching, planning and more he demonstrates just what a strong NCO (non-commissioned officer) can bring to a unit," said John-Morton.

Earl began his Army career in 2010 and has held various leadership positions, including team leader, squad leader, platoon sergeant, and first sergeant. As the first sergeant of the 3-6 Detachment, Earl guided young soldiers through developmental tests, flight tests, and the development of tactics, techniques, and procedures for modernization programs.

"To the junior soldiers of the diamondback detachment, I can truly say I have never worked with finer soldiers in my career. I watched you grow into leaders and triumph through test validations," said Earl. "I have no doubt that after I am gone, the feats and milestones will continue to grow, and this unit will become even better because of you."
