TOWER BARRACKS, Germany — The Reel Time Theater at Tower Barracks buzzed with anticipation as Soldiers and their Families gathered for a special concert by country artist Niko Moon on March 20.
The event was organized by Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers and the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation.
Moon performed his latest album, “These Are the Nights,” bringing a slice of home to the military community stationed abroad.
“I’m so grateful for the protection and all the hard work that our service members put in,” Moon said. “Being able to come over here and bring a little bit of home to the service members is something that is really important to me.”
This was five-year-old Freyja Lockington’s first concert.
“I really liked the drums and the electric guitar and the singing,” said Freya.
During the performance Lockington handed Moon a handmade sign that read, “I like you, Niko Moon.”
The event allowed Families to enjoy quality time together while engaging with the music.
“For such a small venue, it was a huge amount of energy, so it was great for the band,” said Elissa Lockington, Freyja’s mother. “I loved that we could get up and the kids could play and dance in the front.”
In closing, Moon expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to perform for the military community, highlighting the unifying power of music.
“Music has this beautiful, mysterious way of bringing us all together,” he said. “Thank you so much for having me. Such an honor to be here and hopefully I get to see y’all soon.”
The concert concluded with a meet-and-greet session, offering attendees the chance to talk to Moon, to take photos together and get autographs.
“He is a very exciting person,” said David Roach, chief of business and recreation at DFMWR. “He brings smiles to everybody’s faces.”
Roach also highlighted the importance of such events for the community.
“When we are talking about the community, we want to make sure that we are putting on these events so we are getting people out of the barracks, out of their housing units, onto the base so that they can share events like this with the community, meet each other, and just have a good time.”
Roach also highlighted upcoming events, inviting the community to participate in future gatherings designed to strengthen bonds and provide entertainment.
“We have several events throughout the year, and we always invite the community to come out,” said Roach. “We do have the Kinderfest in April and several trips you can take. On the Fourth of July, we have a band out there, and we have our Volksfest coming out in August. We just love seeing the community come out here and have a great time together with their Families.”
