World Book Day in Torun
April 23 is World Book Day every year. On this occasion, the Municipal Transport Company in Toruń, as part of the “Przystanek na czytanie” campaign, wants to give books to its passengers – both young and old. Books will be waiting for them in the bookbus.
The reason for the campaign is important - according to research conducted by publishers, more than half of Poles have not read a single book in a year. Meanwhile, it has been known for a long time that reading can improve brain function and memory and make the brain, despite aging, work more efficiently. Reading also improves brain connectivity, reduces stress, supports relaxation, improves sleep and has the potential to reduce the likelihood of Alzheimer's disease. Reading for the brain is like the best and healthiest food for our body. The more books we consume, the better and faster our brain develops.
Why do we read so little? Some simply did not leave home and did not develop this habit. Others explain it by saying they do not have time, but somehow find it to surf the net. Still others claim that books are too expensive and they do not have time to go to the library. MTC has decided to meet such people halfway and encourage them to read with free books.
Already on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, i.e. on World Book Day, a bus, or rather a bookbus, will be standing in the Kiss&Ride bay in front of CKK Jordanki on al. Solidarności, where free books will be waiting for public transport passengers, passers-by and anyone else who wants to read them. All sorts of books, for young and old. There will be children's books, publications on history, nature, travel, crime stories, romances and social literature. There will be plenty of school readings and classics. In a word - something cool for everyone!
Our book bus will be waiting for visitors from 10:00 to 12:00. At the very beginning, we have prepared a surprise for those hungry and thirsty for a book. A read, of course!
Books from the bookbus do not have to be returned after reading. We will be very happy if they enrich the home library. Or maybe this one book will start someone to love reading? Maybe from today, instead of looking at the phone, they will devote themselves to reading an interesting book while traveling on public transport?
The ceremonial opening of the exhibition “Mater Ceramica” at the Bolesławiec Museum of Ceramics
It is the result of cooperation between museum professionals from Faenza and Bolesławiec, initiated by the Italian Institute of Culture in Krakow with the financial support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The exhibition, previously exhibited in Warsaw, appeared in Bolesławiec as part of the “Italian Design Day” campaign, an annual initiative that promotes Italian design internationally.
Bolesławiec was visited by distinguished guests associated with the world of Italian culture and art. Among them were Dr. Claudia Casali - director of the prestigious Museo Internazionale Delle Ceramiche in Faenza, Monika Kwiatosz - Honorary Consul of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Italy and Matteo Ogliari - director of the Italian Institute of Culture in Krakow with his colleagues. There was no shortage of local government representatives represented by Vice-President Robert Rzepnicki and a wonderful audience that flocked to the event.
The vernissage began with a series of official guest speeches, which introduced the audience to the process that led to the presentation of the collection of Italian and Bolesławiec ceramics in Bolesławiec. The main theme of the exhibition is an extraordinary artistic dialogue between the highest quality Italian objects by famous artists, including Lucio Fontana, Leoncillo and Galileo Chini, and masterful examples of ceramics made in Bolesławiec - starting with the designs of outstanding artists Karl Gross and Arthur Lewin-Funcke, made for pre-war ceramic factories, to sculptures by valued Bolesławiec artists - Krystyna Gay-Kutschenreiter, Janina Bana-Kozłowska and Bronisław Wolanin. The exhibits presented, created between the end of the 19th century and the 21st century, encourage comparisons, searching for differences and common features between these two intriguing collections of ceramics.
The exhibition opening program also included a surprise for ceramic art enthusiasts - the directors of both museums, Anna Bober-Tubaj and Claudia Casali, invited the audience to join them on a journey through the world of ceramics. The curatorial tour of the exhibition brought everyone a lot of interesting information, not only about the history of the artists and the works presented, but also sensitized them to the beauty of different forms of ceramics.

A4 is getting ready for summer renovation. Bolesławiec could get stuck in traffic jams!
This summer, the A4 motorway in the Bolesławiec area is to turn into a construction site.
The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways has just announced a tender for urgent renovation of the concrete surface on the Krzyżowa - Krzywa section and in the vicinity of the Mikołajowice junction. Work will start during the summer - and this can mean one thing: gigantic traffic jams and chaos on the roads in the region! We are talking about replacing several concrete slabs, which are severely strained.
According to the announcements of GDDKiA, construction teams are to take care of, among other things, demolition of cracked concrete slabs, replacement of the surface, repair of verges and drainage, as well as renewal of horizontal markings. The contractor will have 55 days to complete the entire work, but the most severe difficulties will last a maximum of 19 days. Unfortunately, these will most likely be exceptionally difficult days.
Why? Because the likely detour will be routed along national road no. 94 – directly through Bolesławiec. This could mean real road Armageddon in a city that often struggles with heavy traffic without it. Residents and drivers can expect long traffic jams, a difficult commute to work and extended travel times.
Will Bolesławiec get stuck in a traffic jam? Everything points to it. We appeal: plan your journeys in advance, consider alternative routes and arm yourselves with patience - summer on Lower Silesian roads is going to be really hot!
