White Sands Schools is in need of volunteers, especially people to help with the Parent Teacher Association.
As the school year comes to an end the PTA is looking to elect a new president, treasurer, and secretary.
The PTA President leads the PTA, often serving as the chair of the board, the Treasurer manages the finances and the Secretary keeps records of meetings and communications.
Kimberly Arrey, the School Liaison Officer, said her job is to support military families and the schools to include home schooling, and any kind of support that military families need.
Originally from the Las Cruces area, Arrey has been employed by Child and Youth Services at WSMR for almost 25 years and has held the SLO job for four years.
“Specifically with White Sands Schools we are always recruiting volunteers,” Arrey said. “Teachers need help in their classrooms with making copies and the PTA is also always looking for volunteers for special events.”
Right now, they are looking for volunteers to help with popcorn on Fridays and all of the end of the school year activities.
Those events include the following:
April 11 – White Sands Schools walk to school event. Meet at the School Age Services building at 7:20 a.m.
May 9 – Bike to school event
May 14 – All Activities Banquet in the gym
May 22 – 8th graders hang out at the WSMR Lodge
May 28 – Middle School field trip to the WSMR Bowling Alley at 12 p.m.
May 29 – Prek-8th grade water day at Sgt. Pedro Field across from the school
May 29 – 8th grade Walk at White Sands Schools
“The staff really appreciates any extra help that they can get,” Arrey said. “For the PTA volunteers are extremely important to help raise funds that go back into the school, the staff and students.”
