PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. – Servicemembers and civilian employees here can now fuel up on food and beverages at three new micro markets made available through a partnership with the Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES).
The micro-markets are operating at the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Armaments Center headquarters, Armament University, and the Cpl. James E. Smith building.
Micro markets are fully automated self-serve stores located in high-traffic or out-of-the-way areas that offer a wider product assortment compared with traditional vending machines.
Offerings vary by location and may include sandwiches and microwavable meals, juices, and energy drinks for employees who may not be able to leave the workstation and eat at one of the several dining facilities operated by Picatinny Arsenal’s Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation Directorate.
Payment is required at time of purchase. Users can either pay at the kiosk situated at the market or through the USConnectMe App on a mobile device.
Since 1895, the AAFES Exchange has gone where warfighters and their families go to improve the quality of their lives by providing valued goods and services at exclusive military pricing.
The Exchange is the 54th-largest retailer in the U.S. In the last 10 years, the Exchange benefit has provided $3.7 billion in earnings that support the military community, including through contributions to critical military quality-of-life programs, outfitting more than 600,000 Warfighters at cost annually, providing school meal support for Department of Defense Education Activity facilities overseas and delivering needed services to locations impacted by natural disasters.
