During or around the week of March 17, many Fort Leonard Wood area school districts will be dismissed for spring break to allow students, staff, and families time to relax, and reset before finishing the school year strong. Spring break is also a potential opportunity for our Fort Leonard Wood civilians and service members to request leave or pass to spend time with their families and loved ones.
Prior to spring break travel or activities, every leader and supervisor should ensure that their teams understand the importance of risk management and accident avoidance. Your caring leadership can positively affect our team members and can make the difference between sound judgment and poor decisions.
Spring break and St. Patrick’s Day typically result in increased alcohol-related accidents and incidents. Alcohol use increases risk in every activity. Never drive under the influence of alcohol or any illegal substance, while distracted, or drowsy. The Drunk Driving Prevention Program offers our team a resource for safe, secure rides. To volunteer as a driver or to request a ride, call 573.452.8595.
Warmer weather will bring an increase of outdoor recreation. Motorcycle riders and recreational vehicle operators must be properly trained and licensed, and always wear appropriate protective equipment, whether on post or off post. Ensure your teammates are following all command policies for off-duty activities. Know the rules and regulations for recreational shooting ranges and obey all waterway regulations when participating in waterborne activities.
We hope our students, service members, and civilians enjoy their spring break and above all else, remain safe. We are proud to serve with you!
