ILLESHEIM, Germany — The 127th Aviation Support Battalion officially assumed responsibility from the 615th Aviation Support Battalion during a transfer of authority ceremony here, March 3.
The 615th ASB, part of 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, is returning to its home station at Fort Cavazos, Texas, after a nine-month deployment to Europe in support of a Regionally Aligned Forces rotation.
The symbolic casing of the 615th ASB's colors and the uncasing of the 127th ASB's colors marked the official transfer of authority.
The 127th ASB, also known as “Work Horse”, is assigned to the Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Division, out of Fort Bliss, Texas. Lt. Col. Linus Wilson and Command Sgt. Maj. Eladio Tirado assumed command from Lt. Col. Anthony Booher and Command Sgt. Maj. Leonard Boyer.
The 127th ASB is prepared to provide comprehensive aviation support across the European theater. It will train on individual and collective Army warfighting tasks, as well as conduct joint exercises with NATO allies and partners to enhance interoperability and readiness.
Previously stationed here from September 2022 to May 2023, 127th ASB continues a longstanding history with the region. The Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Division “Iron Eagles” traces its roots back to its initial formation on April 16, 1986, in Ansbach, Germany.
Located approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Ansbach, Storck Barracks in Illesheim is a strategic hub within U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach. The installation features an airfield designed to support rotational aviation forces and one of only two flight simulation complexes in Europe.
With its rich history and critical role in Army aviation, Storck Barracks continues to be a key location for U.S. Army aviation forces in Europe.
