Capt. Micah Robbins, an operations officer with the Mission Command Training Program at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, talks with KC Mavericks goalie Victor Ostman, from Danderyd, Sweden, prior to KC Mavericks vs. Allen Americans hockey game Feb. 19, 2025, at the Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, Missouri. Robbins, who served as an emergency backup goalie for the Allen Americans in the Feb. 19 matchup, trains with the KC Mavericks four to five times each season but is available to play for either home or away teams during games. Substitutes are not only needed for injuries, but also when starters are called up to play in the National and American Hockey Leagues. The KC Mavericks are a feeder team, developing players for the NHL Seattle Kraken, and the Texas-based Allen Americans support the NHL Utah Hockey Club.
