TOBYHANNA ARMY DEPOT, Pa. - A machinist earned a depot-level award for his technical expertise, dedication and take-charge attitude, which contributes to the completion of program schedules in the Machining Branch.

Richard Snyder claimed the Tobyhanna Employee of the Quarter Award for the third quarter of the 2009 fiscal year. He works in the Systems Integration and Support Directorate.

His duties include manufacturing parts and items of equipment from different types of metals and metal alloys, and other materials.

Snyder's co-workers recognize him as a role model for employees and note his positive attitude, high morale and dedication to the mission and warfighter.

He is known for his outstanding work ethic and performance in support of Firefinder, Night Vision and the Program Manager Counter Remote Control Improvised Explosive Device Electronic Warfare programs.

Snyder's co-workers say he promotes Lean Six Sigma manufacturing process 100 percent.

"He has contributed to Lean efforts by taking charge of reducing waste and finding, suggesting and implementing better and faster processes to reduce production time on many projects," says John Roskowski, branch leader.

Snyder's efforts have helped decrease set-up and operation time of the Computer Numerically Controlled and conventional lathes, machines that turn material to allow for symmetrical cutting.

"He continually exceeds production requirements on multiple production efforts, while exhibiting dedication and professionalism," explains David Vincenti, a machinist in the branch.

All civilian employees are eligible for the Employee of the Quarter Award. Winners can also receive an optional special parking space for the quarter in addition to the $500 cash award and plaque. Workers selected as an employee of the quarter are eligible to compete at the U.S. Army CECOM Life Cycle Management Command-level.
