Brig. Gen. Van Den Bosch and Command Sgt. Maj. McGuire celebrates 21st Theater Signal Brigade's retention success

FORT DETRICK, Md. – It was a day of recognition and celebration as Brig. Gen. Van Den Bosch and Command Sgt. Maj. McGuire honored the incredible retention achievements of the 21st Theater Signal Brigade during a ceremony on Feb. 18 at Fort Detrick.

The leaders proudly presented “Champion Retention” belts to standout units that went above and beyond. The 114th Signal Battalion earned the first award for being the first unit to complete its Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) and Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) retention goals. The 302d Signal Battalion secured recognition for having the highest retention percentages for FY24 and FY25. At the same time, the 56th Signal Battalion Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) took home the Top HHC Award for both years.

Alongside unit awards, BG Van Den Bosch and CSM McGuire took the time to highlight individual excellence, recognizing Career Counselors who played a vital role in retention success. Several dedicated Soldiers were presented with coins of excellence as a token of appreciation for their hard work and commitment.

Among the individual honorees, Staff Sgt. Andrew Scott, 56th Signal Battalion, received the Heavy Hitter Award for re-enlisting a larger percentage of his unit than any other Retention NCO. Sgt. 1st Class Michael Taylor, 21st Theater Signal Brigade HHC, and the brigade itself were both recognized with Excellence in Retention Awards for surpassing their FY24 and FY25 goals.

Adding to the momentous occasion, SFC Taylor, SFC Chadney Diggs, and SFC Andrew Scott were awarded the Army Commendation Medal in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the brigade’s overall success.

“Teamwork is the heartbeat of our retention mission, and together we create an environment where every member feels valued and engaged,” said SFC Taylor, reflecting on the collective effort behind the brigade’s achievements.

The 21st Theater Signal Brigade continues to set the bar high for retention excellence, demonstrating the Army’s unwavering commitment to its Soldiers and their careers. This celebration not only recognized past accomplishments but also reinforced the foundation for future success.
