WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. (February 6, 2025) – On Jan. 22, White Sands Missile Range Executive Director Vincent M. Liddiard met with senior leaders in the hypersonic test and evaluation community unifying knowledge and bringing together national and regional specialties supporting existing efforts and accelerating an ‘Area of Innovation’ at WSMR.
In alignment with the Department of Defense’s National Defense Strategy, WSMR will converge tenant capabilities and resources on post by including Army, Navy and Air Force in its hypersonic initiatives to meet the nation’s needs through modernization and strength.
“White Sands Missile Range possesses a unique confluence of requirements and capabilities to move the country forward in hypersonic efforts. My desire is to have a collaborative and inclusive, not exclusive working relationships with leaders in this space to meet our nation’s needs. I want to accelerate innovation, build communication, and strengthen the enterprise to deliver improved hypersonic capabilities. This will be the first of many collaborative meetings we will hold to make history here,” said Liddiard.
WSMR has remained an invaluable resource and asset to the Army Test and Evaluation Command and greater DoD as the largest Army post and test range spanning 2.2 million acres with 24-hour DoD restricted air space 365 days a year empowering testing from surface to space. Driving modernization on the range are the 1,500 civilian physicists, engineers, mathematicians and scientists responsible for radar tracking, optics instrumentation, nuclear reactor operations, telemetry tracking, network data collection and communications, data analytics, long range corridors, infrastructure, and missile assembly.
"Bringing hypersonic testing to White Sands Missile Range represents the next leap in aerospace technology, pushing the limits of speed and efficiency, and unlocking new realms of possibility for global connectivity, defense, and exploration," said Juan Coria WSMR Strategic Technical Initiatives General Engineer.
This gathering of industry leaders is addressing WSMR’s challenges head-on surrounding its aging workforce, infrastructure, and systems. The range is looking to the future with these talks by setting the groundwork for nurturing its private and academic partnerships. Through these collaborations, WSMR will be focused on hiring and working with the industry’s brightest minds to achieve its hypersonic initiatives.
