ANSBACH, Germany — Garrison offices and Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) schools will be closed Thursday, January 9, 2025, in observance of a National Day of Mourning following the passing of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter.

President Joe Biden has declared this day as a mark of respect for President Carter’s life and legacy. In accordance with the presidential executive order, all federal offices, including those at the garrison, will suspend normal operations Jan. 9.

Dining facilities (DFACs) and emergency services, including fire and law enforcement, will not be impacted and will remain operational.

The announced closure of federal offices will affect all garrison offices and services. The garrison shuttle will not be in operation Jan. 9. Ansbach Middle High School and Ansbach Elementary School will both be closed Jan. 9. All Child and Youth Services (CYS), which includes childcare, are also closed. U.S. Army Health Clinic Ansbach is closed.

The AAFES Main Exchange and gas station will be open from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. The commissary will be open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

All Family & MWR activities will be closed with the exception of the Army Lodge, which is open from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The fitness center at Katterbach is 24/7 access only and the Storck Barracks fitness center is open from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Service members, civilians, and families should check with their chain of command or supervisors for further guidance regarding mission-essential duties.

U.S. employees should code Jan. 9 as Holiday Leave (LH) in ATAAPs and other timekeeping systems. Civilians who scheduled use or lose annual leave for Jan. 9, and are unable to reschedule that leave for use before Jan. 11, 2025, will forfeit the leave. All Local National (LN) employees are excused from work with pay.
