ANSBACH, Germany – U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach has earned the prestigious Army Safety Excellence Streamer, symbolizing a successful safety program without a major accident.

The Army Safety Excellence Streamer recognizes units and installations that meet stringent safety criteria and demonstrate a proactive approach to accident prevention, in accordance with the U.S. Army Safety and Occupational Health Program (Army Regulation 385-10).

“This accomplishment reflects the collective efforts of the entire garrison community to prioritize safety in every aspect of daily operations,” said USAG Ansbach Safety Manager Robert Brenckle.

To qualify for this honor, the garrison successfully completed 12 consecutive months without any at-fault Class A or Class B mishaps.

Class A mishaps involve fatalities, permanent total disabilities, or damages exceeding $2.5 million, according to AR 385-10. Class B mishaps include injuries resulting in permanent partial disabilities, hospitalizations of three or more personnel, or damages between $600,000 and $2.5 million.

The USAG Ansbach Safety Office provides support to Soldiers, families and civilians to cultivate a safe working and living environment both on- and off-duty through risk reduction measures. The office also conducts accident investigations, analyzes mishap causes and trends, and assesses risk.

A best practice launched by the office in 2024 was to make reporting safety concerns easy for the community. Signs posted across the garrison allow community members to scan a QR code to quickly report safety issues to Brenckle and his safety team.

“Our focus is to encourage a safety culture through leader and individual accountability,” Brenckle said. “But we can’t go it alone. Safety starts with you — report hazards, take action, stay vigilant.”

USAG Ansbach was one of two U.S. Army garrisons in Europe to have earned the streamer in 2024. The other was USAG Rheinland-Pfalz.

The Safety Excellence Streamer will be proudly displayed for one year, serving as a reminder of the garrison’s achievements and its ongoing commitment to protecting its community. To maintain this honor, the garrison will continue to prioritize safety, reassess practices, and encourage a culture prioritizing safety.

“This achievement highlights the garrison’s dedication to implementing and maintaining a robust safety program, ensuring the well-being of Soldiers, employees, and family members,” said Garrison Commander Col. AJ Southard. “Safety is a shared responsibility, and together, we have demonstrated that a culture of safety is achievable and sustainable. Let’s continue to prioritize the well-being of everyone in our garrison community.”
