Fort Leonard Wood will honor the Army’s annual tradition of pausing institutional training and education during the holiday season. Our trainees, students, and cadre will have the option to leave for the holiday period, to reconnect with loved ones and enjoy the holiday season.
Safety is a priority during holiday block leave, and we want everyone to avoid accidents and return safely. Remember, a safe, mishap-free holiday begins with planning and conversations across the formation. Discuss hazards and risk management with those in your care. Understand travel plans, stressors, relationships, and living situations your teammates may be dealing with this season and provide available resources.
Alcohol adds risk to every activity and can negatively impact physical and mental health. Never attempt to drive a vehicle, handle a weapon, or make important decisions under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Motor vehicle accidents increase this time of year due to unpredictable winter weather. While we want to reach our destinations in a timely manner, safety is paramount. Speeding or failing to adjust speed for conditions; failing to wear seatbelts; and driving distracted, drowsy, or under the influence are the greatest contributing factors in vehicular injuries and fatalities. Targeted training through hazard identification, intensive risk management, and strong leadership involvement are critical to holiday leave safety. Pack additional supplies to accommodate the weather and potential road hazards.
We hope our team has an enjoyable holiday season and takes the time to reflect on our many accomplishments here at Fort Leonard Wood. 2024 was an outstanding year for our installation and community, and we continue to be the best place to live and serve in the Army! Enjoy your time with family and friends, enjoy the festivities of this season, and come back safe for another year of phenomenal achievements.
