Calling all history buffs! The U.S. Army Center of Military History is actively seeking qualified U.S. Army Reserve Captains, Majors or Lieutenant Colonels interested in a two-year assignment as a CMH Historian/Scholar in Residence for the U.S. Military Academy at West Point beginning early summer 2025.

Those interested must submit their applications no later than Jan. 31, 2025.

If selected, the Historian/Scholar will serve a two-year tour of duty, with the first year of duty as a military history instructor on the rotating faculty of the Department of History. The second year will be a utilization tour at the U.S. Army Center of Military History.

"This is a great opportunity not only for the applicant but also for the future of our Army. To research military history and then teach those lessons to the next generation of leaders studying at an institution like the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is as unique as it gets," said Christopher J. Ghiz, Command Historian, Office of Army Reserve History, U.S. Army Reserve Command (USARC), Ft Liberty, NC.

To be eligible, a Master of Arts degree (or higher) in History is required. The degree must be from a qualified civilian college or university with a fully accredited resident program, or from a fully accredited military graduate program like the Master of Military Arts and Sciences (MMAS) from The U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.

A similar degree earned through qualified and fully accredited online graduate programs, such as those offered by Norwich University, Harvard University, King’s College, American Military University or other similar programs may also satisfy the requirement.

The U.S. Army Reserve Command will convene an interview panel in mid - February 2025 to select the Historian/Scholar in Residence from among the top three applicants.
