U. S. Army Garrison Daegu Hosts Retiree Appreciation Day

DAEGU, South Korea – U. S. Army Garrison Daegu hosted a successful Retiree Appreciation Day event, honoring the service and sacrifices of retired military personnel, surviving spouses, and their dependents, Nov. 16th, 2024.

The event, held at Camp Walker’s Evergreen Club, featured a complimentary brunch for attendees, courtesy of the USAG Daegu Command Team, Commander Col. Dave Henning, Command Sgt. Maj. Asgar Kamaludeen, and Deputy to the Garrison Commander Chet Witkowski. Participating on-post agencies included Navy Federal Credit Union, Army Community Service, TRICARE, The Exchange, Defense Commissary Agency, Community Bank, Army Substance Abuse Program, Judge Advocate General, American Red Cross, Transition Assistance Program, Wood Medical Clinic, and Bodine Dental Clinic.

“We have great advocates who are always here taking care of our Retirees,” USAG Daegu Command Sgt. Maj. Asgar Kamaludeen, said.

More than 50 retirees and their family members attended the event.

Off-post agencies, including Fatima Hospital, Hyosung Hospital, Dongsan Medical Center, Keimyung University, Veteran Affairs, and Hope & Wellness, joined in the celebration, providing valuable resources and information to attendees.

Cadets from the Daegu Middle/High School's JROTC program greeted guests and staffed the sign-in and information desks.

The event received high praise from attendees, with one retiree commenting, "Today's retiree day event was so great. Food, giveaways, and socializing. Thank you!" Another attendee expressed gratitude for the Command Team's generosity, saying, "Thank you for today's RAD. Awesome event and we appreciate the Command team buying us brunch."

The Command Group was thrilled with the positive feedback, acknowledging that the event met its intent of fostering a sense of community and connection among retirees, their dependents, and current active-duty military personnel.

The event concluded with an awards presentation, when the Military Personnel Division's Retirement Services/Transition Center received special recognition for their efforts in organizing the successful event.

Henning and Kamaludeen presented coins to Mr. Randy D. Frazier, with the Department of Veterans Affairs, and Ms. Kaena Maeda Ngo, a TRICARE representative. They also presented Certificates of Appreciation to representatives from the visiting hospitals and the JROTC team.

USAG Daegu encompasses three separate base clusters: Camp Carroll in Waegwan, Chilgok County; Camps Walker, Henry and George within the Nam-gu district of Daegu Metropolitan City; and Pier 8 and Busan Storage Center are in Busan. USAG Daegu/Area IV has the largest footprint in South Korea, encompassing almost half of the country, stretching from Daejeon to Busan. As an enduring hub on the peninsula, USAG Daegu also provides support to the U.S. Navy at Fleet Activities Chinhae in Jinhae and the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Mujuk in Pohang.
