The U.S. Army Garrison Detroit Arsenal hosted a Holiday Tank and Tree Lighting Ceremony for the Tank-automotive and Armaments Command community Nov. 26 to celebrate the installation holiday decorations and to kick off the holiday season.

Maj. Gen. Michael Lalor, commanding general for TACOM, was the guest speaker for the event.

“You are all the heart and soul of our organization,” said Lalor.  “I and the TACOM leadership team truly appreciate all you do. The holidays are a time for us to take a step back and reflect on what the season is truly about.”

This year’s event included the lighting of several trees near the TACOM headquarters.

“We were fortunate to be able to have generous commercial sponsors and advertiser whose contributions have allowed us to expand this year’s holiday lighting decor,” said Katy Carter, director of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation. “Our sponsorship community plays a key role in our ability to provide special programs for our installation, we are very grateful for their contributions to events like the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony.”

The event also included holiday carols by the Detroit Arsenal choir and snacks provided by FMWR.

“Let’s nor forget those who cannot be with their loved ones during the holidays, many of whom are our brave men and women in uniform,” added Lalor. “Their sacrifices allow us to celebrate freely so let’s make a sure we send them and their families our deepest gratitude and warmest wishes.”
