FORT KNOX, Ky. — Volunteers from the from the Fort Knox American Red Cross Helping Hands Program and Maj. David Chapman, pastoral care & operations chaplain for the Fort Knox Religious Support Office, handed out Thanksgiving meal bags to local Soldiers on Nov. 22.

“This is a big event for the American Red Cross at Fort Knox,” said Chapman. “These are all volunteers, and they are just tickled to be able to feed and help Soldiers.”

In about three hours, the volunteers bagged 105 Thanksgiving meals to hand out to those in need this holiday season.

“I’m very proud to be working here, this is my home away from home, and I’m, so thankful that we got more food to give to the Soldiers; that’s what this is all about - the Soldiers,” said Mary Lowery, an American Red Cross volunteer at Fort Knox.

Each family also received a $50 Commissary gift card, funded by the Chapel Tithes and Offerings Fund, to provide additional options to Soldiers and their Families.
