Business leaders from across the greater Wyoming Valley applauded Tobyhanna Army Depot (TYAD) Thursday night, celebrating the organization’s employee-focused culture.
Alongside King’s College, TYAD was presented the Greater Wyoming Valley Chamber of Commerce’s “Healthy Workplace Award” during the Chamber’s annual dinner on Nov. 14. The award, which recognizes businesses that promote health and wellness in the workplace, highlighted the organization in front of more than 400 attendees.
Depot Commander Col. James L. Crocker accepted the award, noting that the creation of a healthy workplace enables Tobyhanna to support American heroes.
“Tobyhanna Army Depot is proud to be honored as one of the Healthy Workplaces of The Year, a testament to Team Tobyhanna’s commitment to investing in our people. By promoting the holistic wellbeing of our workforce, we ensure that our team remains mission-ready and fully equipped to support the joint warfighter. This award underscores our dedication to the incredible 3,000 people who are a part of Team Tobyhanna, enabling them to be all they can be while supporting those who keep America safe,” he remarked.
The event also celebrated the Chamber’s 140th anniversary. In opening remarks, Chamber President and Chief Executive Officer Lindsay Griffin-Boylan congratulated award winners, noting how collaborative efforts are driving the region forward.
“This year’s Chamber Annual Dinner not only celebrates our organization’s 140th milestone and our history, but also our incredible honorees that are making a difference locally and cultivating our future momentum and progress. We are thankful to them for all they do.”
Tobyhanna was selected for the award based on several factors, including myriad programs that facilitate employee wellness, work/life balance, and a safe working environment. The nomination package highlighted the efforts of Tobyhanna’s Employee Wellness Center, which provides brief counseling services to depot employees as well as peer education, veteran-focused support groups, and crisis support. In addition, TYAD’s comprehensive safety/ergonomic programs and modernization efforts designed to improve quality of work environments contributed to the recognition.
Connecting with the community and investing in its people are just two tenets of Tobyhanna’s long-range strategic plan, TOBY2035. The plan focuses on posturing the depot to support future force requirements and has additional lines of effort dedicated to ensuring C5ISR readiness across the joint services and shaping the future.
