FORT KNOX, Ky. — The nearly 100-year-old historic water tanks, located across from the Main Post Chapel were dismantled over the course of a few days during the week of Oct. 21, 2024. However, interpretive panels, located near Barr Memorial Library will remain as a lasting tribute – part of the Fort Knox Heritage Trail.

Since the mid-1900s water towers number one and two, along with towers three and four, served as installation water sources until 2020, when they were replaced. The towers remained as a historic landmark until now.

The towers have also been featured in the films “Stripes” and “Goldfinger”.
