Fort Liberty is proud to host Retiree Appreciation Days on October 18-19, an annual event dedicated to honoring the service of the Army’s retired Soldiers and their families. This special event reaffirms the Army’s ongoing commitment to those who have served and provides retirees with valuable opportunities to access key services and reconnect with the Army community.

“The Army conducts RAD to demonstrate its continuing appreciation for retired Soldiers’ past service to the nation and to encourage their ongoing support for the Army, its current Soldiers and their families,” Donnell Edwards, Retirement Services Officer at the Fort Liberty Garrison, said.

This year’s RAD offers a range of activities and services designed to ensure retirees remain connected and well-supported, featuring a Retiree Golf Tournament at Stryker Golf Course, Bowling Tournament and a Shred-A-Thon. In addition to these activities, three major services are available to attendees, ensuring they have the resources needed to maintain their well-being and benefits:

  1. Benefits and Entitlements Information at the Soldier Support Center: There will be various booths providing up-to-date information on veteran benefits and legal assistance, which includes services such as will preparation and powers of attorney documentation.
  2. ID Card Facility: Retired Soldiers and their families will have the opportunity to renew their ID cards, ensuring uninterrupted access to the benefits they’ve earned.
  3. Medical Screenings at Womack Army Medical Center: Retirees and their family members can receive essential health services, such as flu shots, blood pressure screenings, blood donations, physical therapy resources and more.

While the event structure remains consistent each year, allowing attendees to choose the services they need without feeling overwhelmed, the appreciation from the retirees is always evident. Feedback from previous events has shown that these services make a tangible difference in the lives of those who once served.

“RADs are most certainly meeting its objective,” Edwards said. “Each year, retired Soldiers and family members express their gratitude by greeting the various venues with thank you cards and appreciation comments.”

As Fort Liberty prepares for this year’s RAD, the installation remains dedicated to honoring the enduring legacy of its retirees and providing them with the resources they need to continue their own personal journey with the Army.
