WASHINGTON — A Total Army Career Fair will be held Sept. 6-7, 2024, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. The Total Army Career Fair – Houston will have recruiting representation from active-duty, Army Reserve, Army National Guard and Army civilian organizations.

“The message is about opportunity,” said Roy Wallace, an assistant deputy chief in the office of the Army Deputy Chief of Staff, G1. “We want to focus on sharing the endless possibilities that a uniformed or a civilian career in the Army can offer.”

The event will highlight the wide array of careers in the Army, with on-the-spot hiring possible for hundreds of positions, including jobs in child care, cyber, chemistry, construction, contracting, security intelligence, engineering and more. Uniformed recruits may receive up to a $50,000 signing bonus, free health care for themselves and their dependents, and 30 days of paid time off.

“Prospective Soldiers can engage with those in uniform and envision themselves pursuing similar opportunities and roles,” said Michelle Davis, director of strategic communications at the Civilian Human Resources Agency.

Army recruiters have prioritized identifying long-term employees and consider the event a career fair, not just a job fair. The Army has thousands of civilian vacancies with more than 500 occupations.

All applicants of different skill and educational backgrounds are invited to attend. The fair will feature positions that are available in Texas and around the world.

Civilian Army positions offer the chance for growth and advancement. Nearly 60 civilian occupations, including jobs in medical, STEM, child care and social sciences, are of critical importance to the Army.

Veterans and Soldiers leaving service can choose to remain part of the Army team through employment as civilians in rewarding careers. This event enables recent retirees to accelerate the hiring timeline.

According to Wallace, the motivation for large venue career fairs came from the top. And according to Davis, the event gives Army organizations the opportunity to meet with job seekers and explain why federal service, whether by wearing a uniform or working in the Army as a civilian, offers wide-ranging benefits, retirement plans and the satisfaction of serving our country.

“The career fair began as a civilian hiring event,” Wallace said. “But then we decided we would try something that's never been tried before, and that is to recruit for all Army openings at a single event, thus the ‘Total’ Army Career Fair. It’s time we started thinking strategically and innovatively. We want the Army to be the employer of choice for prospective candidates.”

The Army is committed to fostering a culture of care and respect with a goal of providing a supportive and enriching environment for every member of the Army family. More information can be found on the Total Army Career Fair - Houston website.
