FORT MOORE, Ga. — The Fort Moore Thrift Store, a beloved institution in the community for over 65 years, reopened its doors July 30, 2024, in a new and expanded location. The store, an extension of the 101-year-old Fort Moore Spouses Club, has moved to 7370 Kilgore Street, building 228, more than tripling its space.
"We are thrilled to finally be in our new location," said Jacylann Nix, president of the Fort Moore Spouses Club. "Our old building was 3,000 square feet and we were crammed in there. To be able to move to a building that's over 11,000 square feet, expand for our customers, and employ more people is just amazing."
The relocation and renovation were made possible by the support of the garrison and the tireless efforts of the store's team of employees and volunteers. The expanded space promises to provide a wonderful shopping experience, with a wider selection of items and a more comfortable environment.
"We have everything here," Nix said. "Clothing, shoes, purses, toys, furniture, kitchenware, arts and crafts, books - you name it. And with our new space, we're able to have a larger processing area, triple the size of our shopping floor, and give our customers a better shopping experience."
The reopening of the thrift store marks a significant milestone for the Fort Moore Spouses Club, which has a long history of giving back to the military and surrounding community through scholarships and grants. In 2024, the club awarded over $180,000 to 75 individuals pursuing higher education and 26 military and community organizations.
The Fort Moore Thrift Store is a vital part of the club's mission, and its reopening is a testament to the dedication and hard work of its team. Nix expressed her gratitude to the volunteers and employees who spent hundreds of hours moving the store and setting it up over the summer.
"I just want to say thank you to all of our volunteers and employees for their hard work and dedication," Nix said. "We couldn't have done it without them, and we're excited to continue serving our community for years to come."
