REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. — Antiterrorism Awareness Month kicks off Aug. 1, providing an opportunity for service members, civilians, family members to increase their understanding about extremism, terrorism, insider threats and vulnerabilities.
Throughout the month, Army Materiel Command will promote antiterrorism education and awareness.
Antiterrorism is one of the 13 independent, yet mutually supporting, pillars of the broader Army Protection Program. Other enablers include physical security, emergency management, law enforcement, operations security, continuity of operations, cybersecurity, fire and emergency services, insider threat, mission assurance, security programs and suitability.
"See something, say something": The tried-and-true saying stands firm; if something doesn't feel right - report it. Mitigating complacency and increasing awareness are tools anyone can employ to deter potential threats by staying informed, alert and observant.
Why Antiterrorism awareness is important
Enhanced vigilance: By understanding the nature of potential threats, we become more adept at recognizing and reporting suspicious activity.
Stronger security: Awareness leads to proactive measures that harden our facilities and processes against attack.
Mission resilience: Our ability to anticipate and respond to threats ensures uninterrupted support to the warfighter.
Every member of the AMC workforce has a vital role to play in antiterrorism efforts. Be observant - report any concerns to your supervisor or security personnel.
Remember, antiterrorism is a team sport, and our collective vigilance is our strongest defense.
Trust your instincts
We rely on our senses every day of our lives. If a behavior or activity makes you feel uncomfortable, report it.
