Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD – The CECOM Software Engineering Center has once again demonstrated its commitment to professional development and excellence by winning the June Skill Assessment Challenge, a competitive initiative led by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Data, Engineering, and Software. The challenge, which saw participation from various organizations within the Enterprise Talent Management community, aimed to promote upskilling through the Udemy Business Pro platform.
This month’s top performer was Ms. Lauren Medley, Senior Software Analyst, whose exceptional engagement and skill progression secured SEC’s organizational win and highlighted her dedication to continuous learning. “Engaging with the Udemy Business Pro platform has been incredibly rewarding. The assessments and labs have helped me identify areas for improvement and provided the tools I need to advance my skills,” Medley said. “I’m excited to continue this journey and encourage my colleagues to do the same.” Medley emphasized her interest in Udemy because of its comprehensive and accessible training resources, which she found invaluable for her professional growth.
For the June Skill Assessment Challenge, participants were asked to take as many assessments as possible between June 7 and June 21 to baseline their proficiency levels in technical areas relevant to their jobs or the Army’s efforts to build data literacy. Each assessment included 30 knowledge-based questions and took 25-30 minutes to complete.
Building on the momentum from June, the DASA(DES) has introduced a new challenge for July, focusing on hands-on lab experiences. From July 17 to July 31, 2024. Organizations will complete as many labs as possible on the Udemy Business Pro platform. These labs, covering over 230 popular tech topics such as data science, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and DevOps/DevSecOps, offer participants the practical training needed to master new skills.
The skill assessment challenges are part of a broader effort by the DASA(DES) to foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development across the Army. By providing access to Udemy Business Pro licenses, the Army ensures that civilians and soldiers have the resources they need to stay ahead in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. The Udemy Business Pro pilot has over 1,100 participants, primarily from the ASA(ALT) community, C5ISR, and CECOM SEC.
Jared Craig, Lead Management Analyst, highlighted the significance of these challenges. “The competing organizations within the ETM community were judged based on the percentage of skill assessments completed,” Craig said.
As the July Lab Challenge unfolds, all eyes will be on the participating organizations, waiting to see who will rise to the top. The spirit of friendly competition and the drive for excellence promises to make the July Lab Challenge another dynamic event for the ETM community.
