Maj. Gen. Colin P. Tuley assumed command of the U.S. Army Maneuver Center of Excellence and Fort Moore today during a ceremony in Marshall Auditorium on post. Tuley brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role as the commanding general of the MCoE and senior responsible officer of Fort Moore.

“I know how honored and humbled (Tuley is) to take command of this strategic organization, where lethality … along with the future of our maneuver leaders, starts," said Lt. Gen. Maria Gervais, deputy commanding general and chief of staff for U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, who officiated the ceremony.

Having served in a variety of critical command and staff positions, and in four previous assignments at Fort Moore, Tuley is well-prepared to lead the MCoE and the installation into the future.

“I am truly excited to be a part of this community,” Tuley said during his ceremony remarks. “Fort Moore’s partnership with Columbus is without peer. I have watched it over many years and stood in awe at the special bond between this installation and community.”

Prior to stepping into the top leadership spot at Fort Moore, Tuley served as the deputy commanding general, XVIII Airborne Corps at Fort Liberty, North Carolina. He served over 10 years in the 75th Ranger Regiment, elements of which are located here, and has multiple deployments in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, and Freedom’s Sentinel.

During this assignment, Tuley looks forward to the opportunity to help shape the maneuver leaders of tomorrow — the lieutenants and captains who will one day serve as leaders in the Army’s fighting divisions.

“Infantry and Armor fill the ranks of the majority of our divisions,” Tuley said. “Those leaders, most of them, come through here. It's not something to beat your chest on. It's just a fact. Infantry and Armor are the largest proponents of lieutenants and captains, they fill the ranks of divisions. It's a tremendous responsibility. But boy, this is a place where you impact the future leaders who are leading our sons and daughters like no other.”

Outgoing commanding general, Maj. Gen. Curtis A. Buzzard — who heads to Europe to serve as an advisor to the U.S. Army Europe and Africa commander while awaiting confirmation for his next assignment — said he will miss the mission and people of the MCoE and Fort Moore the most.

“This truly is an amazing place and the best assignment I've had in the Army,” Buzzard said.

He has crossed paths with Tuley throughout his career, early on at the Captain's Career Course, and later as brigade commanders in the 82nd Airborne Division, Buzzard said.

“We’ve been running in the same crowds for the last three decades,” Buzzard said of Tuley. “I'm certain he'll take the Maneuver Center of Excellence and Fort Moore to even greater heights.”
