Army CID Deploys 8 Scientists & Forensics Lab to Jordan for Exercise Eager Lion 2024

By Thomas B. Hamilton III, Army CID Public AffairsJuly 12, 2024

The Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) Forensic Exploitation Department (FXD) deployed a team of eight scientists, and a complete chemistry laboratory, to Amman, Jordan, in support of the 34-nation multilateral exercise Eager Lion from May to June 2024.

The FXD team, deployed from Gillem Enclave, Georgia, went from a packed and palletized set of equipment loaded on a U.S. Air Force C17 Globemaster at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, to a fully functioning chemical laboratory in the Kingdom of Jordan four days after landing.

'The speed of this deployment . . . clearly demonstrates the Forensic Exploitation Department’s ability to support short-notice critical missions for the U.S. Army and its international partners'

During the exercise, the scientists provided support, expertise, analysis of drug samples, and hands-on demonstrations of evidence handling. At the conclusion of the exercise, several countries’ representatives expressed their admiration for the speed at which the team was able to receive, process, and produce actionable results through its lab.

“The speed of this deployment, and the utilization and success of the laboratory clearly demonstrates the Forensic Exploitation Department’s ability to support short-notice critical missions for the U.S. Army and its international partners," said Forensic Exploitation Department Branch Chief Lateisha Tiller.

In its 11th iteration, Eager Lion 24 is a multilateral exercise hosted by Jordan and designed to exchange military expertise, improve interoperability among partner nations, and is considered the capstone of a broader U.S. military relationship with the Jordanian Armed Forces.
