Good morning Team CECOM,

This Thursday, 4 JUL, is a special day for our Army and our Nation as we come together to celebrate Independence Day. The ideals of sacrifice, freedom, and duty that permeate our Declaration of Independence remain just as important now as when they were adopted 248 years ago.

How fortunate that my first full week in command falls during the Independence Day holiday. As such an impactful day for our Nation and her defenders, I am glad to be celebrating with a workforce whose dedication to our warfighter is felt across the DoD footprint. Monique and I are looking forward to experiencing all the Fourth of July festivities with our new community here in Maryland. I encourage you to also take time to celebrate with family and friends, but please do so safely.

In observance of the Independence Day federal holiday this week, the command will function at reduced manning levels on Friday, 5 JUL. Consistent with mission requirements, I encourage our Army Civilians to take annual leave, with supervisor approval, and our military personnel to use passes or leave. For military and Army Civilians working 3 JUL, I authorize supervisors to grant a 59-minute early release. As is standard for early release announcements, contractor employees must adhere to the terms of their contract regarding early release and cannot charge the federal government for any time while released.

Thank you all for your warm welcome. I look forward to meeting, learning, and growing with all of you over the next few years.

This We’ll Defend!
