Red Cross teams, to include Italian, German, Croatian and many other Red Cross nationalities, also took part.
“It’s a once in a lifetime thing for us to do,” said Stephany Frank, who is a nurse who volunteers in Vicenza. “Getting to engage with all these other communities and cultures and represent America in a great fashion”.
During the battle of Solferino in 1852, Henry Dunant found himself helping wounded soldiers from both sides of the conflict in. After the conflict he left Italy and returned to his home in Switzerland where he would become one of the founding members of the Red Cross.
