The 23rd annual AUSA Iron Mike tournament drew 23 four-member teams June 19 at the Links.

The 92 golfers competed on the 18-hole Warrior course in the last event of the community’s Armed Forces Celebration. Funds raised from the tournament go toward the scholarship programs of Redstone-Huntsville Chapter of the Association of the U.S. Army.

“We’re happy to support this event every year,” Garrison Commander Col. Brian Cozine told the golfers before the start.

“It’s a beautiful day for golf,” Gary Haught, Links director of golf, said.

The trophy with its iconic Iron Mike Soldier bust awaited the winning team on the Links patio. It goes to their organization until next year’s tournament. The winning foursome’s names, gross score and year are added.

Tec-Masters Inc. won this year’s tournament with a 17-under 55. The winning golfers included 88-year-old Marvin Carroll, Mark Washburn, Tyler Clark and team manager Luke Dorminey.

“We made a lot of putts and Marvin drove it straight,” Dorminey, a second lieutenant in the National Guard, said. “Yes, he did. He won the long drive.”

AUSA’s Jacobson was pleased with attendance at the community’s more than a week of activities for the annual Armed Forces Celebration. “Everything was good,” he said.

Here are the top three Iron Mike teams: 1. Marvin Carroll, Mark Washburn, Tyler Clark and Luke Dorminey, 55 score. 2. Parker McElveen, Wesley Burns, Joe Jellison and Jay Maher, 58. 3. Joe McGurk, Cap Cappelletti, Jackson McAnally and Tyler Lamberth, 58.
