Fort Knox, Kentucky – Fort Knox leaders named Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Jim Iacocca as the installation’s newest “Gold Neighbor” during the post’s Community Partnership Dinner last night.
This honor is bestowed annually to select individuals of the greater Fort Knox region who have distinguished themselves through their support to Fort Knox and its Soldiers and Families.
Immediately upon retiring out of Fort Knox in January 2018, Iacocca served as a prominent, positive and active force in advocating for Fort Knox, its missions and Army Families. Iacocca also helped ensure Fort Knox has a voice in a multitude of civic-related affairs, to include housing, healthcare, transportation and military spouse employment.
Iacocca has worked to facilitate multiple engagements and events to help educate elected officials, Civilian Aides to the Secretary of the Army, and a wide array of community leaders about the installation’s diverse missions and needs. He also worked to establish greaterfortknox.com; helping newly arriving Fort Knox families get better acquainted with the region and its offerings.
“He has been a tireless advocate for advancing Fort Knox causes and helping achieve positive outcomes,” said Fort Knox Garrison Commander Christopher Ricci during the presentation. “The results of his efforts have raised Fort Knox’s regional and national profile and further cemented central Kentucky’s reputation as a welcoming place to military families that also offers a first-rate quality of life.”
Iacocca joins these other community leaders as Gold Neighbors: Carl, Anne, Bob and Jan Swope as well as the late Bill and Betty Swope; Barbara Proffitt and her late husband Ronnie; Blake Proffitt; Charlie Thurman and his late wife Claudia; Erika and Gene Gudenkauf; Greg Milby; Hollie Sexton Foy; Randy Acton; Charlotte Masterson; Dr. James Ramsey; Nannette Johnston; Brad Richardson; Carl Cornelius; Carole Logsdon; Kendra Stewart Scott; Bill Evans; Dr. Jillian Carden; Charlotte Masterson; Dick Ardisson; Maj.
