Brothers in arms, siblings serving together at Fort Eisenhower

By Kaylyn St. JeanMay 30, 2024

In the U.S. Army, it is not uncommon for siblings to serve together, however, Fort Eisenhower seems to be making it the new norm. There are currently three sets of identical twins and 2 sets of siblings serving together at the installation while attending advanced individual training.

The first of several sets of siblings are the Calicott brothers of Lexington, Kentucky. Elder brother Josiah (35), a Data Operations Warrant Officer, is attending the Warrant Officer Advanced Course, and younger brother Efraim (22) is attending Advanced Individual Training to become an Information Technology Specialist.

Three of the six Calicott siblings are currently serving in the Armed Forces, with middle brother Samuel in the Air Force. Growing up in Lexington, Ky., the Calicott brothers were homeschooled and have strong family ties to the military and their Christian faith.

Throughout their childhood and into their teenage years, their mother Geny and father Joel, pushed the siblings to pursue their passion and encouraged them to embrace being servant leaders.

Today, the brothers attribute the Army in helping mold them into strong capable Soldiers, who lead by faith, and hope for an optimistic future due to the careers the Army has provided for them.

Josiah credits his career success to amazing leadership and the support of his family. Since joining the Army, Josiah met and married his wife Grace, and credits the benefits and stability of the branch in allowing them to raise their son Judas without healthcare or housing worries. He looks forward to retiring from the Army and continuing his passion for computers and evolving technology. Josiah encourages all who are interested in cyber and computer systems to join the Army for the cutting-edge education and endless opportunities.

Efraim credits his career success to his brothers Josiah and Samuel, as well as awesome leadership he has had since joining a few months ago. Prior to joining, Efraim tried his hand at a few different career fields but decided that a career in IT most captured his interest. After encouragement from Josiah and his brother Samuel, Efraim sat down with an Army recruiter to scope out his options and decided on his current Military Occupational Specialty.

Since joining, Efraim’s interest in IT has grown exponentially, and he hopes to inspire others to give the Army a chance. “It may not be a perfect fit for everyone but for most people my age, it’s an amazing opportunity.”

The Calicott brothers are inspired to carry on their family legacy of service and tell their #ArmyStory to everyone they meet.

- Josiah Calicott summed it up by saying “Being on fire for what you do and what you stand for is all the reason you need to #BeALLYouCanBebe all you can be.”
