The Fort Leavenworth (Kansas) Spouses' Club closed out the year in style with a luau-themed social May 15, 2024, at the Fort Leavenworth Frontier Conference Center, but the real celebration centered around the presentation of FLSC scholarship and grant awards.

The merit-based scholarships are a cornerstone of FLSC's commitment to supporting the educational pursuits of dependents and spouses of sponsors residing within a 40-mile radius of Fort Leavenworth.

Through the tireless efforts of its members and the generosity of the local community and the Fort Leavenworth Thrift Shop, FLSC was able to award a total of $13,000 in scholarships to four deserving recipients this year.

The selection process was highly competitive, with 18 applicants vying for the coveted awards.

A dedicated panel carefully reviewed each application, ultimately selecting the four winners.

High school senior scholarship recipients:

• Benjamin Soyka plans to attend the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, to pursue a degree in computer science.

• Melanie Libby is headed to the University of Missouri, with a focus on strategic communications and a minor in environmental science.

• Courtney Manner will be studying microbiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Continuing undergraduate recipient:

• Isabel Williams will continue her studies in robotics engineering at Michigan Technological University's College of Engineering.

The FLSC scholarship awards not only recognize the academic achievements of these outstanding individuals, but also underscore the club's dedication to investing in the future of the Fort Leavenworth community. As the organization looks ahead to another year of service and support, the impact of these scholarships will undoubtedly be felt for years to come.

Community grants

FLSC was also able to award $9,000 in grants to several local community organizations. Recipients included the Alliance Against Family Violence, Leavenworth County Council on Aging, Stronghold Food Pantry and The Deeper Window Association, as well as several other area organizations.

The club's ability to award a record amount in scholarships and grants this year was made possible through the generosity of its members and the local community, as well as the hard work of those involved in fundraising efforts throughout the year.

The Fort Leavenworth Spouses' Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the military community and giving back to the local area. Through its scholarship and grant programs, the club invests in the education and well-being of military dependents and the surrounding community.
