Anniversary Rides in Retro Style

On May 16, 1891, the first horse-drawn trams made their debut on the city's streets, marking the beginning of public transport in the city of Copernicus. To celebrate the 133rd anniversary, the Municipal Communications Department invites everyone to enjoy free rides on a vintage tourist tram on May 16 and 17.

This tourist tram, a true historical gem, was originally manufactured in 1960 and served Toruń as a regular scheduled tram for many years. After being retired from regular service due to the arrival of a new fleet, it underwent a thorough modernization in 1993 and now operates as a special attraction during anniversaries and significant city events. It is also available for hire for occasions such as school outings, workplace events, special celebrations, and advertising purposes. Remarkably, it was even used for a wedding a few years ago! The tram can be decorated with company advertisements, providing a unique way to promote services and products.

The free anniversary rides will take place on the afternoons of May 16 and 17, 2024. The route will run from the University to Solidarity Street. While the rides are complimentary, seating is limited to ensure passenger safety.

Additionally, this year marks the 100th anniversary of bus transport in Toruń. Starting May 17, the Museum of the History of Toruń will host the exhibition "Buses and Trams of Old Toruń." More details about the exhibition will be available soon.
