Gate 10 temporarily closing in early May

A temporary change to Redstone Arsenal gate operations will begin May 4.

Gate 10 on Patton Road will temporarily close. To diminish community impact, Gate 8 at the Patton-Drake intersection, will open 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.

Garrison Commander Col. Brian Cozine said the change is necessary as the installation works to achieve the minimum required guard strength to operate Redstone’s numerous access points.

Commuter traffic continues to increase and is nearing pre-COVID levels, Cozine said. At the same time, the installation is facing challenges in hiring staff to fully operate its gates.

“Protecting our installation is a top priority, and the strength of our guard force is a key component of that. So, we are focusing our efforts on recruiting new guards to achieve optimal staffing, while taking steps to retain the guards we currently have,” Cozine said.

“We realize the impact Arsenal traffic has on our community and appreciate everyone’s patience as we make adjustments to increase and protect our guard force while ensuring everyone’s safe commute.”

The commander reiterated the closure of Gate 10 is temporary and will be relooked as the staffing situation improves. Those interested in joining the guard force can apply at usajobs.gov.
