KALUNDBORG, Denmark - Helping to spearhead exercise Immediate Response 24, a team of Soldiers from the 793rd Movement Control Team (MCT), 510th Regional Support Group (RSG), perform reception, staging and onward movement (RSOM) operations from mid April through the beginning of May, 2024, in Kalundborg, Denmark.

Immediate Response 24, part of the U.S. Army's DEFENDER series, is the first U.S.-led exercise that has utilized this seaport for theater opening and port operations, making a new logistical pathway that enhances U.S. strategic flexibility and reach to the High North in order to defend NATO Allies and partners. Military exercises involving NATO nations in the European theater remain an integral part of demonstrating our capability, readiness, and interoperability.

The 7th Mission Support Command is the U.S. Army Reserve presence in Europe. Comprised of 26 units across Germany and Italy, the 7th MSC provides logistical and sustainment resources in support of U.S. Army Europe and Africa missions across the theater. The 793rd Movement Control Team, 510th Regional Support Group, 7th Mission Support Command made military history during their annual training when they assisted to off-load approximately 200 vehicles and equipment from the Arc Integrity, an American Roll-on Roll-off Carrier here at the Port of Adria in support of Immediate Response 23, on May 14, 2023.

“We are conducting reception, staging, and onward movement of equipment for the U.S. Army, and the Navy,” said 1st Lt. Adrian A. White, the commander of the 793rd MCT.

White said that the mission’s aim was to demonstrate the U.S. Military´s ability to rapidly deploy a large combat credible force and equipment throughout Europe.

The 793rd worked alongside 100 other service members from the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Air Force, the Minnesota National Guard, along with partners from the Montenegrin Army and Croatian sailors to move equipment during the operation.

Judy Rising Reinke, the U.S. Ambassador to Montenegro, Maj. Gen. Gregory Anderson the commander of the U.S. Army´s 10th Mountain, Krsto Perović, Montenegro´s State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Colonel Željko Radulović the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Montenegro, toured the Port of Adria, observing port operations in support of DEFENDER-23.

White briefed Reinke and the dignitaries how the MCT enabled the 34th Infantry Division, Minnesota National Guard to receive its wheeled vehicles and to conduct multi-national combined arms training with Allies and partners in the Balkans during exercise Immediate Response 23 between May 22 to June 2, 2023.

“This was a successful testing of the strategic importance of Bar and its ability as a deep-water port to rapidly off-load about 200 pieces of equipment in about four to five hours,” said Anderson. “It´s a proof of concept to demonstrate the strategic geographical importance of Montenegro,” he said.

After the dignitaries departed, the 793rd wasted no time helping the Soldiers of the 34th ID send high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles and other equipment across the port to the Croatian navy´s landing ship-minelayers Cetina and Krka.

Upon loading its cargo, the ships weighed anchor and set sail to Croatia with a small contingent of U.S. Soldiers and Sailors on board to accompany the transport.

“What we do best is get your equipment from point A to point B seamlessly,” said Sgt. 1st Class Orlando Stamps, the detachment sergeant of the 793rd MCT. “We´re knocking it out of the park,” he said.

Exercises like the Defender Europe series illustrate the value of interoperability between Allies and partners, as well as between U.S. military branches and components. The U.S. Army Reserve is an instrumental participant in U.S. Army Europe and Africa missions across the globe.
